A.A. Books

If you are new to Alcoholics Anonymous, here are some links and literature that will help you take advantage of the A.A. Fellowship. The literature is available in printed form at the Yuma Central Office or live meetings. You can also read it online by clicking the pictures below. Each one is linked to a PDF version that can read in your browser or download to your computer.

Alcoholics Anonymous, also known as the “Big Book,” presents the A.A. program for recovery from alcoholism. First published in 1939, its purpose was to show other alcoholics how the first 100 people of A.A. got sober.

Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions explains the 24 basic principles of Alcoholics Anonymous. Chapters provide an interpretation of these principles for personal recovery and the organization of the group.

Readings

These are a few of our favorite passages from the A.A. literature. In many of our meetings, someone will volunteer to read one or two of these.

“The fact is that most alcoholics, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so-called will power becomes practically nonexistent. We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. We are without defense against the first drink.”
