Intergroup Nonprofit Changes

Non-profit Report – October 19, 2024

The project to bring our Intergroup into non-profit compliance with federal and state regulations is essentially complete.  Since starting this in April 2024, the Yuma Roundup Committee requested us to consider including the Roundup as a part of the new Intergroup non-profit corporation. There are many benefits to this, but the primary reason was that the Roundup Committee also needed to become compliant with the same federal and state regulations. After discussions, at both the Intergroup and Roundup committee meetings, both committees voted unanimously to approve this in September 2024.

After approving this, we had four people (Babs, Bill B, Bill O, Paul L) who volunteered to review the initial bylaws and make changes related to the Roundup, as well as anything else they found. That committee met several times and suggested an amended version of the bylaws that have been included in the member packet distributed at this meeting and provided to the Roundup Committee. We also included a document that highlights what we considered the main points in case you don’t want to read all of the legal stuff required by the state and IRS.

The packet also includes a group information form that will be used by the Intergroup to ensure our meeting schedules are correct and to be able to contact a group if necessary. The Intergroup liability insurance policy has an endorsement that allows us to provide liability insurance to the member groups.  This insurance is required by some locations before allowing us to have meetings. Although group registration with the Intergroup is not required, the insurance company will only insure member groups.  Please get your completed forms to the Central Office or email to intergroup@aayuma.com.

The Intergroup Committee will have its annual meeting in January 2025 where we will vote to approve the bylaws and elect directors.  All of the director positions are open as the initial directors were only appointed to form the corporation. See the bylaws regarding qualifications, duties, and length of term for these positions.  Please start considering or asking others to consider standing for these positions. We need at least 3 (but not more than 5) and an alternate.

Member Group Information

Why Support the Intergroup?

The Intergroup is a committee of volunteers made up of representatives from A.A. groups in the Yuma, Arizona area. It exists as the servant of it’s member groups with the purpose of carrying the message to alcoholics. The Intergroup is able to provide services that would be too much for the individual groups to handle by themselves, such as:

  • Maintain the Central Office
  • 24-hour telephone helpline
  • Distribution of AA literature
  • Protect & display our Yuma AA historical materials
  • Collect & distribute meeting information
  • Publish the Yuma AA newsletter
  • Maintain the Yuma AA website
  • Liaison among the AA groups
  • Information center for the general public
  • Sponsor special events for all groups

Who needs it and who supports it?

We all do! Intergroup uses donations contributed by groups in the area to carry on its functions. Your group support is needed to make sure that Intergroup can give us and the community the services we need. “When anyone anywhere reaches out for help, I want the hand of A.A. always to be there. And for that I am responsible.”
